Set amid beautiful tropical gardens with orange, mango and papaya trees, Basunti’s residences provide comfort combined with spectacular views. Accommodation comprises 10 comfortable double or twin-bedded rooms, spread over two low rise lodges and the Main House, each with its own en-suite bathroom facilities, veranda or balcony. They all come with extensive views over the gardens or the surrounding area.

With weather suitable for outdoor living during most months of the year, the Main House is surrounded by an open air, thatch-roofed veranda, where guests leisurely dine and enjoy views over the garden with its rich birdlife. The Main House sitting room is at the guest’s disposal, with its small library and wood-burning open fire place for rare evenings when temperatures drop.

The kitchen, under the direction of David Butterworth (a founder member of Neal’s Yard Bakery, Covent Garden), produces a mouth-watering array of both European and local Indian vegetarian dishes, whole wheat breads and pastries, fresh juices from its fruit trees and the option of fish, caught by the local fishermen. Meals are being freshly prepared using fruits and vegetables grown in our own gardens whenever possible, supplemented by produce bought in the local markets.

Meals are served buffet style in the Main House dining room, to be leisurely enjoyed by the guests while sitting in the large shaded veranda that surrounds the House, enjoying views over the garden. Occasionally, meals are served at the new open-air BBQ area.

Basunti’s secluded swimming pool is situated amongst papaya trees and vivid bougainvillea flowers, where guests can relax and enjoy exquisite views over the lake to the West.

Basunti’s open air, thatched, yoga shala has cool marble floors and is perfect for yoga, tai chi, meditation and other holistic activities. Accommodating up to twenty people, the shala is situated within the beautiful gardens where large poinsettias, flowering hibiscus and wild cactus frame stunning views over the surrounding lake. With exquisite vistas and bird song filling the air, it is easy to relax and feel at one with nature.
In consideration to the environment, Basunti does not have generators, televisions or air-conditioning units in the rooms which are all equipped with ceiling or wall fans instead. Basunti is connected to the local village electricity supply and guests are therefore requested to keep the use of heavy power-consuming devices, such as hair dryers, to a minimum. Additionally, everything possible is done to keep the use of chemicals in the swimming pool to a minimum so as to maintain a reasonable balance between hygiene and the environment.
