Basunti is an idyllic private lakeside retreat in the foot hills of The Himalayas, situated in the state of Himachal Pradesh in North India and surrounded by the waters of the Maharana Pratap Sagar. It sits at the heart of a wildlife reserve and has been developed sympathetically in accord with the local environment.
Set in beautiful tropical gardens with orange, mango, lychee and peach trees, Basunti’s spacious residences provide comfort combined with spectacular views. Basunti has its own open air, thatch-roofed shala that is ideally suited for yoga, meditation, tai chi and other holistic activities. Explore our website and discover a retreat that offers many relaxing activities including yoga, painting holidays, peaceful walks, bird-watching, fishing, swimming (in the fresh-water lake or the secluded swimming pool) and canoeing. It all adds up to a lifestyle that is peaceful, easygoing and informal. “So laidback, it’s almost horizontal” is how Harpers & Queen described the rural atmosphere at Basunti.
We primarily cater for small, selective parties with priority given to organizers or teachers who wish to run their own retreats, centred on a variety of activities – yoga, meditation, painting, photography, creative writing, film appreciation and angling, to name but a few.
Local places of interest, suitable for day trips from Basunti or tour extensions include the rock temples of Masroor, the Kagra Fort, Bathu Temples, Pragpur, Dharamsala and McLeod Ganj and the city of Amritsar.
